Stahlwerke Bochum GmbH invited staff members and their dependants to guided factory tours, casting workshop and get together
Bochum, 30 August 2016:
Sunshine und hot summery temperatures built the perfect backdrop for SWB’s first family day on 27 August 2016. About 100 employees of Stahlwerke Bochum GmbH, specialized in the development and production of highly wear-resistant tools and castings for processing plants, took the chance to offer their dependants a look behind the scenes of SWB.
The guided tours through the foundry drew large crowds. “How are SWB’s highly wear-resistant tools produced?” “What are they used for?” “How much weighs a shredder hammer?” “What about the positive impact of metal recycling on the environment?” “What does the workstation of my husband, dad etc. look like?” These and many more questions were answered during the tours.
A special highlight for children and adolescents was the casting workshop. In his mobile school foundry, Volker Allexi gave the junior founders some theoretical background before they could dabble at moulding, watch the casting process, put the finishing touches to the so casted zodiac medals that they could take home as a souvenir. The combination of infotainment and manual work went down well with the participants and the audience and helped to reach the educational goal to increase the interest in technical professions.
Creativity and teamwork were to the fore when it came to paint the family day picture. The huge picture will be displayed in one of the conference rooms. Little princesses and princes could also make and decorate paper crowns.
Food trucks with sausages, chips, falafel and sweet crêpes took care of creature comforts and didn’t make it easy what to pick. Especially the ice cream stall was very popular – no surprise due to temperatures above 30° C. Non-alcoholic beer, soft drinks, juices and water ensured refreshment, too. The mobile coffee station, a Piaggio Ape, was such an eye catcher that, despite the summery temperatures, coffee, tea and hot chocolate sold like hot cakes.
Almost 350 people joined the SWB family day and had an interesting and relaxed time.
SWB products are used in processing plants like car shredders, scrap shears, stone crushers and other recycling equipment subjected to highest levels of wear. SWB wear parts have the highest resistance to abrasion, erosion and impact and therefore significantly improve the efficiency of the processing equipment in which they are used. The service offered by SWB includes application consulting and matching the wear parts to the design and application of the respective machines. SWB production is based on computer-aided simulation of the casting technology. The pattern production is followed by machine moulding for series in a semi-automatic moulding plant or by hand moulding for piece production of wear parts up to 7,000 kg. Depending on the level of wear, SWB supplies wear parts made of low and high alloyed steel as well as of cast special materials for highest levels of wear. A final individual heat treatment ensures that the quality and performance of the parts will match the high future requirements in each case.
